Dumb question, but I see the blue tape on the back of the coil in most of your pics. I assumed it was masking for paint, but now I’m guessing it’s some other kind of audio hack?

The tape keeps debris (especially wire shavings) from getting into the vented pole piece on the back of the motor structure as this could potentially cause damage to the voice coil. It also reduces the chances of scratching the back plate, so it still looks nice and pretty. The tape probably wont be removed unti l the install is finished and it’ s time to tune .

How will the pretty-ifcation go? Fiberglass cov ers for the sides?

Nah its chrome under there trying to not scratch it with all the activity going on back there. It will come off last.
